  • 18 total fieldwork hours required

Classroom Management in Early Childhood Settings (LEDU 358/SEED 558)

  • 9 total fieldwork hours required

  • Students will interview the teacher regarding a behaviorally challenged student and write an analysis

Observation and Assessment of Young Children (LEDU 359/SEED 559)

  • 12 total fieldwork hours required
  • ​Students will observe and participate in a 1-2 classroom with English Learners/Dual Language Learners and students with special needs
  • Students will identify a student who is struggling academically, administer and interpret assessment instruments, and develop an individualized curriculum and intervention plan based on the data

Early Childhood Practicum (LEDU 360/SEED 579)

  • 75 total fieldwork hours required
  • ​Students will observe and participate primarily in a  kindergarten classroom with English Learners/Dual Language Learners and students with special needs
  • Students will plan, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate practices

FIELDWORK PLACEMENT REQUEST APPEAL

The Fieldwork Placement Request Appeal  can be used to request a specific school/teacher for the next semester's placement. You must fill out the form and return it to the Field Placement Coordinator. A submission of this form does not guarantee that your request will be fulfilled. The director of Early Childhood Education will come to a decision regarding your request and you will be notified via email. If approved, the requested placement must meet the following criteria:

  • Cannot be in a school where a family member teaches or works
  • ​Must be in a WASC accredited school
  • Must be with a fully credentialed teacher who has CLAD and at least 3 years of experience in Early Childhood grades
  • Cannot be in a school previously observed
  • On the first day of class, submit a letter to the professor of the course stating the school name, teacher's name, grade level or subject, and a school administrator's signature
  • Child Development Permit candidate must be in compliance with NAEYC Standard 7
    • 7a. Opportunities to observe and practice in at least two of the three early childhood age groups (birth - age 3, 3-5, 5-8)
    • 7b. Opportunities to observe and practice in at least two of the three main types of early education settings (early school grades, child care centers and homes, Head Start programs)
